Introducing "The Journal"
An invitation to go behind the scenes for the wild, unpredictable, and ridiculous journey of making an indie film
I’m now about three years into the adventure of producing an indie feature film called ONE NIGHT IN A THOUSAND YEARS based on the indie book of the same name written by Craig Cunningham.
It’s one of the biggest Make It. Share It. lifts of my life, and the story has already had a crazy amount of twists and turns. There have been multiple moments along the way when I thought it would be wise to document this more frequently to process everything, keep family and friends updated, and potentially help other filmmakers and builders working in spaces with no clear lines, rules, or playbooks.
So, with principal photography scheduled to begin in mid-October, I decided not to put this off any longer. I have created a landing page for the book and the film here and have created a new section of this Substack called The Journal.
The Journal will be a weekly mix of articles, audio recordings, and behind-the-scenes videos documenting what it’s like to raise funds for a multi-million-dollar indie film, make it, and distribute it. It will be a time machine too, because there are some important inflection points I want to document that have already happened since my last major update announcing James Van Der Beek as the narrator of the audiobook version of the story.
I did not automatically add current subscribers to The Journal because some of you may have zero interest in this new publication. If you do want to follow along, you will need to sign up for The Journal to get new posts.
Here is an article on how to do that, but basically you just go into your Substack settings, go to Story Script under your subscriptions, and opt in to The Journal section.
I’ll leave you with this photo from our recent vision and fundraising night with friends, supporters, and potential investors. More on that night and the rest of the story soon…
